pav loved di stefano but i think that was to annoy his father to no end since his father loved gigli! but, di stefano was the finest lyrics tenor or at least one of them to ever grace the operatic stage. as for florez i do enjoy his singing in HIS fach but i dont find his instrument to be exciting or beautiful. i enjoy alvarez more than any of the current tenors out and also vargas but thats my opinion. cheers

Actually, I agree with you, and you're right, about great singers not giving each other praise. However, I see and hear Pavarotti praise Di Stefano to no end. Something like he's the ideal we aspire to. I happen to like Florez for what he is, and I think he sings beautifully within his fach - and knows not to venture out of it.

pav was being nice when he said that about FLOREZ! GREAT singers never give praise to those who rival them, del monaco-corelli, caruso-bonci, di stefano-schipa the list goes on and on. pav's rival, domingo always got ripped by pav in their primes in interviews cause pav feared him and domingo made him work for it . besides, florez is a major lightwieght when it come to VOICE! good technique though but NOT impressive.

YOU SAID IT! florez is a tenorino trying to CARRY a grown mans game! what happened to FULL LYRIC TENORS singing with balls! i'd rather listen to villazon cra cracking and pushing his way thru repitoire than the fluttery bitch voice of florez preteending to be the next pav! marketing bullshit. florez is the bartoli of tenors. good technique but really, NO BALLS NO EXCITEMENT! NIENTE!

He sings like there's no distance between men and God.

His kind of open singing, in my opinion, is not deadly if he decided to use his voice correctly, such as singing light bel canto roles. He should have been of a vocal weight similar to early Gigli, Schipa, Tagliavini, and singers of that nature. His main problem was that he attempted heavier Verdi roles and Puccini with that same type of open vowel singing. His voice was not meant to take such punishment anyways.

Poor technique and all he has delivered some incredible renditions such as what we are posting about..... If he had covered it might not have been as impressive.

People certainly advised di Stefano not to sing as he did, he told them 'Let me make my own mistakes'... And he did.

Pity, if you didn't have such a load of horse turd where you brain ought to be, you'd see how utterly absurd you really are.
