according to a radio interview I heard in New Jersey... the guy lip synching the words is the bass player (who doesn't sing). the treadmill idea was proposed and choriagraphed by the lead singer's sister. at least that's the way I remember the interview...

The bald guy is the lead singer Damian Kulash. In May 1998, Kulash won Brown University's Weston Prize in music composition. He's also got a masters in Art-Semiotics from Brown and pop culture studies from St. Albans School 1994. In August 2006, Kulash appeared on an episode of The Colbert Report to discuss the band putting their music videos on YouTube instead of going through the normal corporate video-making process. This guy almost pioneered the idea! Pretty f'in cool!
