Nice treat! Telemann gets better sounding the older I get.

wow, i played this in Collegium Musicum at Appalachian State in 2003. We didn't do it this fast though.

Well one piece in particular is their interpretation of Vivaldi's "La Folia" sonata. They use very harsh staccato and some odd tempo which doesn't let the elegant soaring quality of the piece come through. I think it's posted on youtube somewhere....

Hmm would you mind if I ask you to elaborate on that? What specifically in their interpretations do you deem "too bizarre"?

Being a ridiculously massive Vivaldi fan, and Baroque fan in general I'm not really into Il Giardino Armonico. They play nicely, but their interpretations are too bizaare to be "authentic". I do believe a certain level of liberalism needs to be taken with Vivaldi since he himself was a very liberal composer, but Giardino seems to go too far.

i'd rather hear modern players with period instruments than period players with any instruments. also, i don't know what treatises you think could help them do better. maybe it would suit you more if they actually played mouth-organs... in an actual garden.

but many of them have modern instruments. what do you think about it?
