For anyone who saw my previous comments, they were directed at Alessandro1985. (sometimes this computer doesn't respond...)

That's right, I think Britten had his part too, they almost hadn't rehearsed on this one. But nevertheless Britten announced that Richter was "the best pianist ever". And he attended many of his concerts in Aldeburgh and other places. Have you heard Richter's Liszt b-minor from Aldeburgh? Fantastic!

This man was a modern day Renaissance era giant. Impossible not to be moved to the inner core by this personality

oh so that's the reason, thank you. i didnt noticed on the yamahas i played -not particularly, i mean.but im not richter. anyway, first i'd like to bore myself to death w/ steinways, and THEN i'll make experiments with yamaha;)

I have heard that he was attracted to the infinite pianissimo of YAMAHA's piano and its sensitive reaction. I agree with you that steinway&sons have depth and clarity and beauty in its sound like no other, but personally, I like the warmth of Yamaha's sound as well, which is very distinct.

I meant "brahms played [by Richter] on yamaha" of course

Brahms played on YAMAHA piano...i've read he used yamaha a lot in the end. WHY ? I mean, not that it's a bad piano,but..to me is far more obvious the sound beauty of a Steinway. What do u guys think?

Watch him playing Mozart with Ben Britten. So many fluffs that Britten just has to laugh at the end. Fine performance though.

Its the 'big' Haydn E flat sonata Hob.52 and the last one he wrote, I believe. Sad to see more of this adolescent crap about 'best pianist ever.' There's no such thing, merely great individual performances. Of course Richter is one of the greats & this video partly demonstrates the sheer range of repertoire that's one of his characteristics. Another is his ability to play handfuls of wrong notes sometimes!

simply put , he is the best pianist ever , at least in terms of technique and speed , if u dont believe u should check out how he plays chopin etude 4
