Yes, but he would surely be arrested by the police in the aftermath. There were a lot of executions and jail for 1989 dissidents who did much lesser wrongdoing (in Chinese Gov's eyes). Even the journalist who was filming this from his hotel room was approached by the secret guard soon after fortunately he did hide the film in the toilet.

He was not executed. If you can find a full length video you will see other people run up and pull him back into the crowd.

why didn't the other tanks just drive round him lmao there's no way one bloke can stop all those tanks if they really wanted to get past him . if you ask me none of the tank crews wanted to do their duty . and used this guy standing in the street as an excuse not to do it. they could just as easily driven round either side . there would have been nothing to stop them.

There is no clear aftermath. Some say he was executed by firing squad shortly afterwards. Others say he is still alive and is hiding in mainland China. Recent articles claim he now resides in Taiwan. The only possibile identification worth mentioning is Wang Weilin (王维林). I have my doubts, and likely we will never satisfy them.
