I think Tarkovsky comes somwhere at the top, Kuroawa is great but certainly Tarkovsky is original. Kubrick, may be not, after watching "Eyes Wide Shut"

To me, this is not a film, but a piece of art. A wonderful, stunning, entertaining display of wonder after wonder. Bibi Andersson and Liv Ulmann are beyond astounding in two of cinema's finest performances. Not only does this film solidify Bergman as one of the top 2 directors, in my opinion, it shows a broad, inventive and daring type of film making, in which we need more of.

You're right on every count, Stanley. My all-time favorite movie. I might add that Bibi Andersson's performance is beyond brilliant.

A stunner. Command of art, like magic. An incredibly sexy film, yet no graphic sex. None, no real sex, erotic simmers. He captures tension, a story below the surface. time. Over-powering, set against the primitive rock-strewn, limestone beaches of the North Baltic. Lighting forecasts the mood. of the great psychological drama. He wrote it Drama extraordinaire! The cinematography, the lighting, the close ups, the landscape, the seascapes, a picture of awesome power, subtle beauty.

I do not agree with you, i think it depends on the individual, I see films and cinema as the most perfect art form, and i know a lot who does, for me fame has nothing to do with the film, and directors trying to hype their movies by casting famous actors win nothing with me, bergman was an absolute genius, i think directors who want to be famous and make hollywood movies, as their main goal are not directors we can expect much of, and they are not someone i would waste my money on.
