Aren't all these comments pretentious twaddle? This music is okay but it's basically someone someone playing a simple melody over a series of arpeggios very, very slowly. It's probably good for sending you to sleep. The repetition, consistent tempo and narrow range make it relaxing. Unfortunately, Eno has spawned some of the most awful, boring New Age rubbish, although his own stuff is pretty good. If this piece of music brings you closer to your God, good luck to you. It's nice but no more IMO.

A distant piano plays, thats all that matters.

Okay it would take to long to explain why but akwalek is right, bold comment perhaps but true. Don't want to go into detail or try to prove anything but I think we can come together and agree that this music (..well music period) touches a deep underlining essence in man and lifts the being, whether u want to call that "God", the universe, being, presences, nothingness, ourselves, the big apple, whatever. Agnostic or person of faint, doesn't really matter. Music/art aids in the upliftin' of man.

i'll tell you what. somewhat of a paradox but you're both right. peace and happiness be unto the both of you.

Sounds pretty Skinner-ish. But wishful thinking on my part doesn't validate what I imagine. I lean more toward Atheism-it's more honest, and attractive. Only one catch...on very close inspection I think the evidence for the greatest miracle of all--the Resurrection of Jesus--is an open and shut case. As far as 'enough' evidence to persuade, a careful reading of Aquinas' Five Ways is amazing logic--a real treat to ponder. I really have no choice but to believe.

I am agnostic, without true evidence there is no true god, speculation isnt enough in a universe of chance so expansive, thats not to say that god doesn't exist. But i don't agree that god gives us the glory in art, its more our past and the make-up of our minds that dictate what we enjoy just as our taste buds dictate what we enjoy the taste of, or how some people find certain people attractive.

It's the immanence of God that touches the hearts of man to give Him glory in art. For me, this music amplifies relationship, infinite relationship, that is. It points to infinity, rather than reducing to self, since self is non-relational. It serves as a transcendent connection to He who is both distant and close. The eternal Triune relationship gave birth to all we know and will know...out of Love, which is relationship.

What has god got to do with it?, a man made this piece, and chance mixed with science made man. What makes this type of music so amazing is that it brings to the mind a sense of self through reflection, and in an expanding universe of chance, that is a priceless thing to have.

If a music work helps one sense, feel, hear, understand God a little better, then cherishing it is worth much. We are fallible and limited in our ability to sense God. It's entirely likely this kind of art assists us lowly humans in grasping the infinite God. I know I can use all the help I can get.
