good to know that the binding of two more transcription factors, TFIIE and TFIIH, are involved. TFIIH provides RNA pol. with two critical enzymatic activities. First it provides Helicase (correlate TFII"H") which unwinds the double helix. second, it provides a kinase activity which phosphorylates the c-terminus of RNA pol. once RNA pol. has been phosphorylated, it can then be released from the initiation complex(formed at TATA box) and transcription begins...like the green light in drag racing.

This video is not vague at all it gives you a simplified way to understand transcription. instead of burrying your head in the textbook all day. if you understand the basics of transcription then you really don't have to memorize anything. however one thing to add about prokaryotes is that the sigma factor is responsible for binding the RNA pol. enzyme to the -10 and -35 region of the promoter and it dissociates shortly after transcription begins. a bubble forms and RNA pol elongates the mRNA.
