The art is heavily based from Max Fleischer but the story telling seems to follow early Bob Clampbett cartoons and Walt Disney. A brilliant cartoon with beautiful usage of music.

The fact that Felix is a direct plagiarism does little to diminish the accomplishment of the animator. Its very "Japanese" to copy a thing, and make it better. They are the improvement "specialists" in the world, refining details, bringing things into focus, into perfection. But for raw creativity, western culture still liberates the human soul in a way that Japanese culture still can't. Two vastly different, but yet complimentary worlds.

Trippy sh*t! Had some very creative techniques for the time. Such as in the opening, where the moon follows the pedestrian, and the far trees follow somewhat, but the near trees move backwards. Very realistic. I don't remember seeing that much realism with Mickey Mouse. Also, the lighter flicking in the darkness, with only the flint to illuminate the fingers,until the flame catches on. Its like the animator was trying to push the envelope with what could be done with animation. 5 stars!
