I don't think he really answered the question either. I think we get so cault up in his wonderful usage of pros and verbage that it doesn't hit you until much later and you say to yourself: "hey, he didnt answer the question". I do agree with a lot of his points even if I do believe in a higher power. I figured we have a food chain & there fore someone or something just naturally has to be above us as well. We are to simple minded to be at the very top. They for voted Bush for peeks sake! :)

If you honestly think he answered the question, then you are in fact the dumb one. The question was "In the absence of God, where does one base morality", Hitchens didn't think of answering the question for there is no answer in atheism. Materialism is nihilism in disguise, the modern atheist are just to afraid to admit it.

Dang, I never knew how stupid Al Sharpten was! People speak of him so highly, but when I see him here, he sounds like a bloody moron! This man is one of the most blithe I have ever seen speak publicly, even surpassing Mr Bush!

wahaha, hitchens used a lot of quotes, while sharpton hardly used any... ironic

Morality can be based on the compassionate regard for the human condition. Helping people with the basic necessities of food and shelter can only be seen as good. We determine the concepts of good, inspired by our empathy. To assist in creating a society which allows for creative self-development and appreciation of the common human problems to live in THIS world ought to be in the forefront of our philosophies, whether religious or not.

Hitchens didn't even answer the question.

I don't think he was babbling, the answer isn't one that can be summed up in a sentence.

Well, this is the closest I've seen anyone come to making Hitchens in ALL his arrogance look stupid. He took 5 minutes of babbling and trying to use humor to whow the audience, and still didn't answer the question. WAY TO GO AL! What this guy needs is someone who KNOWS they are just as smart and knowledgeable as he THINKS he is, BUT THEY actually do know what they are talking about.
