Midwest Airlines LGA to MCI (Takeoff)
BackHere's the first segment of my return from New York City to Los Angeles. The captain started engine #2 right before take-off rather than at the gate to save on gas. Listen for the engine spool-up. Here's something I learned on the return flight on how airlines are saving money on gas; 1) Engine #2 is started up 1/2-way while taxing. 2) Approach is very short. The plane descends on idle as much as possible and flaps are kicked-in short on final therefore increasing throttle. 3) Reversers are avoided with long runways. Pilots let the airplane coast with "buckets deployed", spoilers, full flaps, and some easy braking. Good job Midwest! Your cookies are still the best part of the flight!
