(July 3)Strong winds are pushing a two thousand acre wildfire back into the canyons north of Santa Barbara, where they are again threatening hundreds of homes. The flames cut power to a swath of Southern California, forcing local officials to declare a state of emergency. The blaze has consumed some three square miles and there are fears that wind gusts up to 20 miles per hour could push it into more populated areas. So far no structures have burned and no one has been hurt.Still, firefighters spent the night guarding homes in the area as the blaze moved to within a mile of some buildings. There are some 17 hundred wildfires burning across California and the state is running out of people and resources to battle all of them.So far more than 770 square miles have burned and at least 60 homes and other buildings have been destroyed since June 20th. ___ ___, The Associated Press.
