Sailor Moon Anime/Manga Comparison 8

Back

Before watching this video, please be sure to have read the top half of the video description for Part 1 of this series so that you understand what this project is all about. You can find Part 1 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Om__F97WheA ----- This comparison features Helios and Chibiusa's first kiss in both the anime and the manga. In both versions, this scene was very touching. However, in the manga, the kiss seems to hold more meaning and significance than the anime kiss. In the anime, Helios and Chibiusa kiss after Chibiusa's wish to be able to keep seeing Pegasus changes her back to her normal size (She and Usagi had switched heights/ages). The kiss was used mostly as a sweet way to end an emotional scene. Meanwhile, the kiss in the manga was an important part of Chibiusa's character development throughout the SuperS season. As mentioned in Comparison 7, Chibiusa's idolization of Usagi/Sailor Moon and her dream to become a mature woman just like Usagi are major themes in the SuperS manga. Thus, when Chibiusa sees the tremendous power that Super Sailor Moon holds and feels that she isn't even close to being that strong, she feels heartbroken and useless. Furthermore, when she realizes that Sailor Moon is probably the maiden Helios had been searching for, a role that Chibiusa thought she herself could fill, she is obviously devastated. Thus, the kiss comes at a significant moment. When Chibiusa is questioning her own worth and losing hope that her dreams will ever come true, Helios reassures her with a kiss. Here, the kiss is a symbol of Chibiusa's step towards maturity and also gives her hope that yes, her dream of finding her own prince WILL come true. THINGS TO NOTE IN THE MANGA: 'Bunny' = 'Usagi' 'Rini' = 'Chibi-Usa' MANGA SCENARIO: Act 35: Early on in this act, Usagi and Chibiusa switched ages/heights because of a spell placed on them by PallaPalla (see Comparison 7). When Fish-Eye attacks Ami at her apartment, Usagi and Chibiusa arrive to help. After they transform, Usagi and Chibiusa go back to their normal sizes and defeat Fish-Eye. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES: In the anime, Chibiusa IS the maiden Helios is looking for. In the manga, PallaPalla's spell, the "magic of the new moon," did not cover Chibiusa's "true dream". In the anime, Chibiusa never says directly that she wants to be just like Usagi. Nor does she feel hopelessly useless in comparison to Usagi/Sailor Moon. The background music during the manga section is called "Tears" by Yoshiki. The chorus of the song includes the following line: "Dry your tears with love." I thought that line fit the manga situation, and the music also fit the emotions on the pages at the right times. The images you see are not full manga pages. I split the pages into pieces so that the image can be bigger on the screen, allowing you to read the words more easily. There are websites where you can download the scans of the entire manga series! Please feel free to message me or comment this video to ask for a link to such a website. I'll be more than happy to send it to you! Please rate & comment!
