Grassroots Journalism in Monroe Co., part 2

Back

In this age of 24-hour cable and the Internet, most of us are bombarded with news and information. But many of us don't get much news about own communities. This is especially true in rural areas like Monroe County. But a project is underway to help Monroe County residents tell their own stories. WVU's P-I Reed School of Journalism is partnering with the school system to create a daily news program at WHFI -- a small FM station at the Monroe County Technical Center. This summer, our own Emily Corio went to Monroe County with WVU faculty and students. Together, they trained students and community volunteer to report and produce the news. This story aired on "Outlook" Nov. 16, 2007, and Jan. 11, 2007.
